Moment in Time
As a group we decided to look into the intimate personal moments in time - all of our initial videos had this general feeling to which we wanted to explore. For example when you get home at night and you sit down to decompress the day with a cup of tea. In terms of a physical presentation of ideas in a exhibited sense the idea of ice came to our minds. Ice can indeed show freezing and melting - two physical changes that can be documented. We each decided to start our own explorations of melting and documenting as the documentation felt to be a big part of the process.

In this exploration we diverted into looking into seasons and environments - however after our initial experiments we felt as though it diverted from the original idea. As well as being aesthetically pleasing to look at we wanted to make it personal to each of us. Therefore we chose each an object to us, that represented a moment in time for us that is important. Being 4 of us and being in different locations during this project we wanted to create an intimate placing of videos (as a physical ice sculpture is a cool idea but in the end would melt to form a puddle of water to which it can not be re-frozen or changed). However a video on a loop can be rewatched, the ice can not physically be there but represents that these moments in time can be repeated.
Technology by Eliza Huang
Every day, we hear about some new technology and theindustry is developing rapidly, I worked in technology fieldfor past 2 years, the feeling of afraid not to catching thenew information of technology, it drives me to read/searchinformation everyday and I feel I am running out of time forreading all informations. The old technology become afossil once the new technology released, in the video, thechips coming out of the ice like a euphemism of anarchaeologist found an ancient tool.
Key by Gemma Carson
My moments in time recently have been taken up by moving house within Groningen. Because of Brexit and the fact I had to get rid of my Italian residency (where my mum lives) and get a Dutch residency means that after studying I either remain here, or go back to England where I haven’t lived for 2 years. I have no base in England and has made me feel as though I don’t really have a home. By freezing this key, I am trying to freeze my moment in time by being able to be in Europe and feel like I really have a home. This is also why I recorded my melt in an inside space.
Canada Brooch by Emma Pheulpin

My moments in time have been dependent on the passing of the seasons in Canada. With a constant identity crisis from growing up in the United States on a visa, I went back to Canada for the first time since my birth after high school. There in Canada, I began to feel a sense of home I really longed for. Each season felt more meaningful, and time passed, so did my fear of misplacement. Being in the Netherlands, somewhere new makes me miss my ritual habits I had grown accustomed to doing a critical part of my life. I know that my studies here are temporary and that soon I’ll be back home. This brooch, with all the colors of the seasons on the glorious maple leaf symbolizes that I’ll be back as time is continuous.
When I first heard that the topic for this project was titled ‘time’, many thoughts came to my mind - what makes us realize most that time passed? We see it in our environment, season change, leaves turn different colors, it gets warmer or colder. For this, I chose to stick with my favorite flower, a rose, because flowers symbolize nature to me and, inevitably, nature always changes with time passing. To freeze this flower meant to freeze time (for a little while). And to record the way the rose unfrose was to capture time continuing. I also chose to use the water that was released in the unfreezing process as a tool to reflect the sky, because it made me realize how fast time can pass when looking at the sky, but at the same time when looking at something else - something stable - time seems to not pass at all.
The buckets and wet floor signs was to create a installation that felt more interactive. When there’s a leak in your house, you hope for it to be fixed. So you place buckets around to catch the water. We wanted to catch the moment in time, this dripping effect making repeating sounds that reflect the repeating video.
